Maia Banks has been writing songs since her early youth. Her other love is painting.
She uses bass guitar and piano when she writes.

Banks' first cd, down, was released in 2001. The music from the cd was used in Dirt Road Productions' of 'The Crackwalker', directed by sister Caerthan Banks, at the Company of Angels theater in Los Angeles. The play recieved rave reviews. The debut ep was also recieved well by college radio and the music community.

Since then she has linked up with drummer Blake Methena and string man Fitzpatrick Turner, as well as guitarists and mad proffesors Bryan Hoffa and Alan Weatherhead. Banks' soon to be released cd, working title SHARK, is a result of that union. The cd will be out summer 2005. One song from this unreleased cd has been used for the score of Dirt Road Production's of 'Minor Demons', as well as a film entitled The Moor, (2006) directed by Caerthan Banks based on the pushcart prize award winning story by Russell Banks and has liscensed her music for street art documentaries "Bomb It' and "South of Nowhere".
